living in the time of COVID-19

I left my job to pursue my longtime desire to be a writer just as the COVID-19 pandemic took off. Now, I find much of my writing focusing on what it’s like to be alive in the time of the coronavirus pandemic.

Dear Clyde

This is a letter written to my dog, Clyde, explaining the pandemic in terms that a sweet boy (i.e. a young child) might understand. Written as part of a writing bootcamp conducted by the Madison Writers’ Studio, it’s designed to emulate the style of Oliver Jeffers’s mini-essay, An ode to living on earth.

Letter to the UPS Guy

This letter is written in the style of the Letter to a Stranger project by Off Assignment. I wrote my letter to a very nice UPS delivery person I came across while walking my dog, Clyde. It’s about a very specific and mundane incident, but it’s meant as a reflection on the feelings of isolation many of us are experiencing during this quarantine.
